2017 BMW Championship Teed Off This Week
Yesterday, the 2017 BMW Championship kicked off at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, IL, as Rory McIlroy made a special delivery of both the BMW Championship and FedEx Cup trophies to the course. McIlroy, the 2012 BMW Championship winner, drove a one-of-a-kind Championship Edition BMW M760i onto the course to surprise the vehicles new owner.
All net proceeds from the tournament go to the Evans Scholars Foundation, which provides full college scholarships to worthy young caddies. The Championship has raised over $24 million for the Foundation since its inception in 2007, and 965 caddies will attend major universities during the 2017-2018 academic year thanks to the Evans scholarships. To date, more than 10,600 caddies have gone on to become Evans alumni. As has become tradition, BMW will also fund a full four-year scholarship that covers both tuition and housing through the Foundation in the name of the first PGA Tour player to record a hole-in-one during this years tournament.
PGA Tour players may also earn prizes if they record a hole-in-one on either the 11th or 17th holes. The first player to score a hole-in-one on the 11th hole will win a hybrid electric BMW i8 sports car, while the first player to do so on the 17th will receive a BMW M760i xDrive. The tournament lasts through Sunday, September 17th, and features the top 70 golfers in the world. This, the penultimate event of the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup, will see all four of this years major tournament winners participating, along with Dustin Johnson — the worlds top-ranked golfer. At BMW of Houston Midtown, we fervently hope that all of our neighbors throughout the greater Houston area are having success in recovering from last months events.
