BMW Meets Commitment to Deliver 100,000 Electrified Vehicles in 2017

At the beginning of 2017, BMW Group made the rather bold commitment to deliver 100,000 electrified vehicles to customers all over the word. By mid-December 2017, the company was able to light up its Headquarter Tower in Munich as a “battery” in celebration of the achievement, highlighting the company’s leading role in developing electro-mobility.

This focus on electro-mobility is a key element in BMW corporate strategy of NUMBER ONE NEXT, which aims to offer 25 completely electric and plug-in hybrid BMW models worldwide. Examples of this dedication abound, from the BMW i8 roadster that launches in 2019 to the 2020 debut of the electric version of the BMW X3 and, in 2021, the release of the flagship BMW iNext vehicle. In addition, the fifth generation of electric drive train and battery technology, which will be available in 2021, makes use of modular electrification kits that are scalable — allowing all model series to be fitted with any available type of drive train. In a press release, Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, commented, “We deliver on our promise.

This 99-metre-high signal is lighting the way into the era of electro-mobility. Selling 100,000 electrified cars in one year is an important milestone, but this is just the beginning for us. Since the introduction of the BMW i3 2013, we’ve delivered over 200,000 electrified cars to our customers and by 2025, we will offer 25 electrified models to our customers. Our early focus on electro-mobility has made this success possible – and electro-mobility will continue to be my measure for our future success.” To learn more about the full lineup of BMW electrified vehicles, contact BMW of Houston Midtown and speak with a member of our team.
