BMW X7 Pre-Production Models Roll off the Line in South Carolina

January 2nd, 2018 by

BMW Group was proud to announce last month that the first pre-production models of the new BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle had started production at the companys plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This step begins the twelve-month process that culminates in the production X7s release at the end of 2018, following an assortment of tests conducted in a variety of conditions.

To optimize production, BMW is using the same assembly line for the BMW X7 as it uses to produce the current BMW X5 and BMW X6 production models. However, a specially-trained team takes over to finish the production process, which includes making sure that the pre-production models are fitted with a camouflage wrap before they leave the plant. These obviously striped patterns are designed to help conceal the final design of the SAV as much as possible. In a press release, Knudt Flor, head of the BMW Group Spartanburg plant, stated.

We are proud to produce the BMW X7 here in Spartanburg, the home of our X models. This is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet a further member of the X family. Together with the BMW X7, a total of five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four corners of the globe. At BMW of Houston Midtown, we take pride in serving BMW drivers from throughout the greater Houston area.
