Here’s How You can Help Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey
Hopefully youre all doing well, one month after the events of Hurricane Harvey. However, we all know that there are some people out there who saw their lives completely upended, as everything they own was destroyed. Here are just a few ways you and your loved ones can help those who are still in need: Food banks are always in need of non-perishable items such as canned meat, dry goods, canned vegetables and cleaning supplies. Contact the Houston Food Bank for more details, or you can donate to Feeding Texas, which is a network of food banks across the state. You can donate underwear, bras and disposable diapers through Amazon.
You can also make a donation of cash or diapers to the Texas Diaper Bank, which is providing emergency diaper kits to displaced families. Teachers of Tomorrow, a Texas education organization, has started a relief fund to help educators in the affected areas rebuild their classrooms. Mayor Turners Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund is accepting donations for flood victims. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas is assisting displaced animals. You can either make a donation or sign up to adopt a displaced animal. Hospitals always need blood donations, and the issue is even more pressing after a storm. While O negative and O positive are the types most needed, all blood types are encouraged to donate. Of course, many local and national organizations are still gathering donations for their disaster relief efforts.
Contact organizations like the Salvation Army, Save the Children, Catholic Charities USA, Heart to Heart, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and United Methodist Committee on Relief to learn more about their needs. At BMW of Houston Midtown, were proud to live and work in such a resilient, civic-minded community.
