Presenting the 2019 BMW i8 Roadster and 2019 BMW i8 Coupe

Late last month, BMW introduced the first-ever BMW i8 Roadster, pairing the innovation of BMW eDrive technology with the Ultimate Driving Machine to create a new era in sustainable driving. This vehicle brings virtually silent driving with zero CO2 emissions to the freedom of open-air driving. Both the i8 Roadster and i8 Coupe enjoy an optimized eDrive technology that produces more power than ever — a total output of 369 horsepower — and can cover up to 18 miles in electric-only mode.

A combustion engine powers the rear wheels while the electric motor drives the front wheels, providing 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than 4.5 seconds. The 2019 BMW i8 Roadster enjoys a lightweight construction, as well as a low center of gravity and an even weight distribution. The exterior is ideally aerodynamic, thanks to gullwing doors and a soft top roof, while the overall design delivers an elegant silhouette that stands out in a crowd. The aluminum Drive module combines a high-voltage battery, the powertrain, the vehicles suspension, crash system and structural functions, while a passenger cell made of carbon-reinforced plastic forms the vehicles Life module.
