In May, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the 2017 BMW 5 Series as a Top Safety Pick +. This award recognizes the companys continuing commitment to best-in-class automotive safety. The 2017 BMW 5 Series earned the rating based on the vehicles performance in the crash tests that covered small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints, plus the optional front crash prevention system that received a Superior rating and headlights that earned a Good rating. In fact, test results show minimal intrusion at the footrest results in the drivers space being at low risk of meaningful injury in a real-world crash.
